Actor Izi Yahya Dies After Fall During Shooting
JOHOR BAHARU, June 25 (Bernama) -- Actor Izi Yahya, known for villain roles in films, died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here today without regaining consciousness after a fall during the shooting of a documentary on Saturday.
He was 42.
His father, Yahya Mat Samah, 77, said Izi fell and lost consciousness during the shooting of a documentary entitled "Darurat" (Emergency) on Saturday and was rushed to a clinic in Mantin (Negeri Sembilan) and then referred to the Seremban Hospital.
He said Izi required immediate surgery for brain haemorrhage and had to be rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here when it was learnt that there were no specialists to attend to him at the Seremban Hospital as well as the Kuala Lumpur, Selayang and Sungai Buloh hospitals and the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
"However, the surgery could not be done because Izi was in a coma, and he died without regaining consciousness," Yahya told reporters when met at the hospital where he had come to claim his son's body.
Yahya said Izi, the fourth of six siblings, also had heart problems and had undergone surgery in the 1980s.
Izi leaves a wife, Suraya Abdullah, in her 30s, and a son, Mohd Zizi, eight.
His career as an actor began when he attended a photography course at the National Youth Skills Institute in Pertak, Selangor. He starred as "Jef" in his first film "Ali Setan".
His role as a villain was most prominent in the film "Embun" in which he acted as "Akaishi", a Japanese soldier. The role won him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 16th Malaysian Film Festival in 2003.
Izi's remains were taken to his family home in Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, for burial at the Ulu Klang Muslim cemetery.
